Why We Fall In Love With Cities
Teeny tiny apartments, constant foot traffic, and $2 oranges at the grocery store — so, why do we all move to big cities upon graduating again? Ah, because cities have a certain je ne sais quoi, a dapper charm that we fall hard for. Let's break it down, shall we? Here are the things that make our romances with cities such exciting, steamy affairs.
Work Hard
Eager to start our careers off with a bang, it's inevitable that we look towards the immense work opportunities cities offer. From major corporate headquarters to thriving creative communities, there's so much to do, so many dreams to live.
Play Hard
Where else can you roll from a hot yoga/performance art/futuristic-themed rave to boozy brunch to a book signing? We're no longer stuck in the college rut of house parties and local dive bars, and that's a damn exciting place to be, especially in a big city filled with other fun-seekers like us.
Peter Pan Syndrome
We don't want to grow up — they can't make us! Well, maybe they can, a little bit. While we won't be able to completely absolve ourselves of responsibilities like taxes or jury duty, we can escape a lot of grown-up chores in cities. Feel like putting off the skills of cooking, laundry, or even running errands? There's an app for that.
Hustle & Bustle
No matter what we do at our day jobs, there's something in the air of a big city that inspires us to do more, to reach higher. And we're not talking about smog. No, we're talking about the general hustle & bustle of all the young, innovative, scrappy people. There's a feeling of awe being surrounded by so many thinkers and inventors that make us want to think and invent ourselves.
Love & Sex (In The City)
Who doesn't want to find our Ross-and-Rachel storyline or Carrie-and-Big happy ending? We hear such grand tales of romance born from glamorous city life, and it's a universal guilty pleasure to insert ourselves into the plot.
Greener Pastures
Cities are these incredibly packed places, and so we often think of them as human hotspots. But in reality, few of us were actually born and raised in a big city — it's much more likely for us to call a suburb just outside the city home. And so, there's curiosity in experiencing a kind of living that we've never known before.
That Skyline Though
Last but not least, we absolutely can't forget the most simultaneously cliché & utterly stunning view of a cityscape skyline. An ageless beauty, that view never gets old over time — if nothing else, the only thing that ever changes is the amount of instant nostalgia that skyline fills you with.
